Inversion: A Mental Model Explained
Think backwards - instead of how to succeed, think how to fail
Example
Instead of "How do I ace this test?", ask "How would I definitely fail this test?" then avoid those things
How to apply it
- goal: Make the soccer team
- inversion: How would I definitely NOT make the team?
- answers: ['Skip practice', 'Not learn skills', 'Bad attitude', 'Poor fitness']
- action: Do the opposite of these things
In kid-friendly terms
Sometimes it's easier to avoid failure than to plan for success
